Nappy Rash
Nappy rash is a skin irritation on a baby's bottom. It can range from a slight redness to a full-scale outbreak of sores and blisters. It occurs when sensitive skin is irritated by being wet or dirty for too long, by a nappy rubbing against a babies skin or by chemicals in the nappy or wipes.
To treat nappy rash,
- Change your baby more frequently.
- Change nappies often and ensure the skin is dry
- Use disposable nappies, which absorb the urine quickly, leaving the surface of the nappy (which is next to the skin) dry.
- Avoid baby wipes that have alcohol in them
- Avoid perfumed products
- Use a barrier cream keep wetness away from a baby's skin.
- Wipe your baby's bottom very gently with cotton balls - do not rub the skin
- Whenever possible leave your baby without a nappy on to allow the air get at the rash - this encourages healing.
- If the rash persists use a medicated product.
