Installing a Car Seat

  • Never place a rear facing infant seat in the front of a vehicle with a passenger side airbag;
  • The first thing to do when fitting a rearward facing infant carrier is to fasten the seatbelt. This will show you which is the lap belt and which is the diagonal belt. (The lap belt is the one that would go over an adults lap while sitting in the car) .
  • Bring the infant car seat in, making sure the seat is flat against the seat's bottom and back. Turn the seat around, so that the baby would face the back window;
  • The lap belt will go over the lap of the child running through the blue guides. (Rearward facing car seats will always have blue guides).
  • The lap belt needs to go through the guides on both sides of the seat.
  • Then take the diagonal belt and run this around the back of the seat, again through the blue guides.
  • Once the diagonal belt is secure check there are no obstructions;
  • Adjust the angle of the seat so that the baby's head would be supported by the back of the seat; With one hand on the side of the seat and one hand on the belt pull the belt tight to remove all the slack from the seat.;
Car Seat

To check that your baby is properly secure, put your fingers between your baby's chest and the seat belt. If you can fit two fingers comfortably under the belt - it's too loose. If this is the case, pull the belt in tighter until you can no longer fit two fingers between it comfortably.
