Foods to avoid
Some foods should be avoided during pregnancy because they may carry bacteria that could be harmful to your baby. Thorough cooking destroys these harmful bacteria, and washing fruit and vegetables you eat raw will minimise any risk.
It is best to avoid the following:
- Raw or lightly cooked eggs;
- Raw or undercooked meat, poultry, shellfish and smoked fish;
- Liver, is rich in vitamin D and too much of this vitamin can be harmful to your baby so avoid liver and any pate's made from livers
- Unpasturised milk and dairy products made from it;
- Mould ripened soft cheeses such as brie and camembert;

- Blue veined cheese and ricotta;
- Unwashed fruit and vegetables;
- Peanuts (especially if there is a family history of allergy, asthma or eczema,), this includes satay sauces and peanut butter;
- Shark, sword fish and marlin (because they may contain mercury);
