Things that may harm your baby

Everything you eat, drink or breath can affect your babies health.

Smoking is a major hazard in pregnancy. Every time you inhale cigarette smoke your baby gets less oxygen and takes in harmful chemicals. Risks of smoking during pregnancy can include: mis carraige, preterm birth, still birth, and low birth weight. If you're finding it hard to stop, seek out the help you need to help you quit. Every cigarette you don't smoke means less risk for your baby.



Other things can may harm your baby

  • Alcohol;
  • Drugs;
  • Medication - unless specifically prescribed by your doctor. This includes medications like headache pills, and cold remedies that you buy without a prescription;
  • Toxic chemicals;
  • Physical abuse - physical abuse poses a serious threat to not only your safety but to the safety of your unborn child. If there is violence in your relationship talk to your doctor or to someone who can help you.
