Constipation

Constipation can happen at any time during pregnancy. The pregnancy hormones soften your muscles and ligaments so they cannot move food through your intestines as quickly as usual.It can also be from the pressure of the enlarging uterus and sometime from iron supplements.

drink plenty of fluids

Straining due to constipation can also lead to the development of piles.

If you experience constipation:

  • Eat a high fibre diet (wholemeal bread, cereals, jacket potatoes) and drink a lot of fluids;
  • Take regular exercise;
  • Ask someone to massage your tummy firmly in a circular clockwise direction.
  • Discuss this complaint with your doctor.
