Leg Cramps

Leg cramps are painful. Cramps are caused by the weight increase during the pregnancy and poor circulation. Leg cramps often occur at night.

If you experience leg cramps:

  • Avoid standing or sitting with your legs crossed for long periods of time;
  • Drink plenty of water;
  • Take regular mild exercise like walking;
  • Have a warm bath before bed to relax your muscles;
  • Once a cramp starts, stretching the muscle by flexing the ankle upwards and massaging the calf.
  • Try maternity support tights if they are not too tight and reduce circulation further.
  • Discuss with your Doctor
